Citing spurious sources inside the White House, the Washington Post, New York Times and its broadcast surrogates at CNN, CNBC and MSNBC continue fabricating negative stories about 70-year-old President Donald Trump, insisting he “threatened” and “hung-up” on Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Calling his phone conversation with Trump “frank and forthright,” Turnbull exposed the ongoing treachery in the liberal press against Trump. Turnbull disputed U.S. press reports that Trump hung-up on him in an angry tirade. “We have a very frank relationship,” Turnbull told “60 Minutes” in Australia, disputing U.S. press reports that conversation went from bad-to-worse. During the 2016 election voters that thrust Trump into office didn’t trust the mainstream press, believing they were in cahoots with former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign.

Showing how far the Washington Post has sunk since Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos bought the paper Oct. 1, 2013, the Post thinks nothing of publishing fakes news stories. Caught red handed with Turnbull admitting that Trump’s angry outburst never took place, the Washington Post and its broadcast affiliates CNN, CNBC and MSNBC think nothing of published fake news. “This was the worst call by far. Trump badgered, bragged and abruptly ends call with Australian leader,” wrote the Post Feb. 2, driving the Hillary narrative that Trump’s out-of-control, dangerous in the Oval Office. When mainstream media continues to fabricate negative stories about Trump, it’s no wonder voters lost in American journalism. Reacting to the Post’s fake news story, Sen. John McCain (R-Az.), one of Trump’s biggest critics on Capitol Hill, called Australian U.S. Amb. Joe Hockey to apologize.

McCain’s used by the mainstream media to slam Trump, whether the story’s fake or not. Now regular on CNN, CNBC and MSNBC, where biased hosts like Rachel Madow rip Trump daily, McCain’s routinely exploited to advance the media’s anti-Trump bias. McCain can’t get over Trump’s July 19, 2015 comment about him sitting in a prisoner of war camp during the Vietnam War. Ever since, McCain and his mini-me Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have practically stood on their heads to upend Trump. Graham once called Trump July 21, 2015 a “jackass” for offending McCain. Whatever the anti-Trump movement in Congress or in the mainstream press, fabricated news reports, like the one about Trump hanging up on Turnbull, undermine the First Amendment and American journalism. You can’t have a “free press” when major sources fabricate news.

Turnbull went the record to correct politically-driven distortions over his phone call with Trump. ”I’ve only said three things about the phone call with the president. Firstly, that it was frank and forthright. Secondly, that he gave a commitment that he would honor the refugee settlement deal entered into by President Obama. And thirdly, that he did not hang up. The call ended courteously,” said Turnbull, throwing cold water on the Post’s story and all the phony reporting by CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and other Trump-bashing news outlets. Speaking about the phone call with Trump, Turnbull gave an X-ray into what really happened. “I always stand my ground . . .I defend my position and the interest of Australia,” said Turnbull, practically admitting that he came on too strong with Trump. But no, the U.S. liberal press turns it around to make Trump look like the bad guy.

U.S. elected officials have an obligation to find out what’s gone wrong with today’s journalism, no longer defending the First Amendment but hiding behind it to engage in what former CIA Director John Brennen called “propaganda, disinformation and fake news.” Once Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Al.) gets sworn in as attorney general, he needs to look into how major U.S. media organizations have been corrupted by politics. Of all the talk—and diversion—about Russian President Vladimir Putin influencing the 2016 election, it far more obvious how the mainstream press colluded with the Hillary campaign to defeat Trump. When it blew up in their face on Nov. 8, you’d think they’d take notice of what went wrong. Since Nov. 8, the press has doubled down on promoting more propaganda, disinformation and fake news to discredit Trump, like the Post’s fake story about Turnbull.

Shamelessly publishing fake news about Trump’s conversation with Turnbull, the Washington Post and its broadcast news outlets prove that they’ve been taken over by corporate lobbyists hell-bent on sabotaging Trump’s presidency. White House and Congressional leaders have an obligation under the Federal Communications Commission to investigate the infiltration of corporate interests in print and broadcast- journalism .If the press can’t fulfill its First Amendment role to keep the government honest, then Congress must do something about it. Watching otherwise politically neutral news organizations jump on the anti-Trump bandwagon is reason for concern. Corrupting the media is the biggest threat to U.S. democracy, not whether or not Trump implements a temporary travel ban. Slapping Trump down in federal court proves the system works fine—not today’s media.
