Letting the Saudis and Turks set U.S. foreign policy in Syria, President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have pushed the world closer than the 1962 Cuba Missile Crisis to WWIII. Allowing 50-years of détente to go by the wayside, Obama backed the Saudi-Turkey proxy war against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. While al-Assad’s no angel, guilty of many battlefield atrocities, he’s the only firewall between Syria and complete anarchy. Obama liked to blame former President George W. Bush for the Iraq War, toppling Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein April 10, 2003, opening up the floodgates of terrorism in Iraq and the Middle East. When Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton backed toppling Libyan strongman Col. Muammar Gaddafi Aug. 24, 2011 they repeated Bush’s mistakes in Iraq, turning Libya into a hotbed of terror.

All the wasteful gotcha games of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, investigating the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack on the U.S. mission killing 52-year-old Amb. Chris Stevens the three other Americans, never got to the real foreign policy disaster: Turning Libya into another Iraq. Chairman of the House Select Committee Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), spends all his time blaming Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the wrong reason. Blaming Hillary for not beefing up the U.S. Benghazi mission with enough security has gone nowhere. Talking about the ill-advised decision to topple Gaddafi would bear more fruit. Like Obama and Kerry, Hillary also backs the Saudi-funded proxy war to topple al-Assad, something Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the U.N. General Assembly Sept. 28, 2015 would repeat the mistakes of Iraq and Libya.

Shooting down a Russian SU-24 fighter jet Nov. 24, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a member of NATO, pushed the world dangerously close to a war with Russia. Erdogan admonishes the U.S. to back his insanity shooting down a Russian fighter jet claiming a bogus air-space violation. With all the flyovers in the Syria-Turkey war zone, there are constant “air-space” violations without incidents. Since joining the air war to defend al-Assad Sept. 30,2015 Putin’s tipped the war’s balance back to al-Assad’s Shiite government. Kerry doesn’t see—and Hillary before him—that the Saudis are dragging the U.S. into a sectarian war between Shiite and Sunnis. Since the Syrian war began March 11, 2011, the Saudi propaganda machine sold the war a “civil war,” when, in fact, it was a Saudi-funded proxy war. Syria’s Saudi-backed rebel High Negotiation Committee now pushes the world to WWIII.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir made clear there can be no peace in Syria until it replaces al-Assad’s Shiite government with a Wahhabi Sunni regime. Al-Jubeir’s gone as far say the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria [ISIS] can’t be defeated until al-Assad steps down. Aligning the U.S. with the Saudis and Turks, Kerry pushes the U.S. closer to a confrontation with Russia. While agreeing with Putin Dec. 15, 2015 in Moscow to leave al-Assad in place, Kerry’s once again flip-flopped, backing the Saudi-Turk policy of regime change in Damascus. With Saudi-backed rebel group near defeat, Kerry calls for an urgent “humanitarian” ceasefire, when, in reality, it’s a way to prevent Saudi-backed opposition groups from getting wiped out. Saudi’s HNC blames Russia for bombing rebel groups seeking to topple al-Assad, despite Putin’s open backing of al-Assad’s sovereign government.

Al-Jubeir now wants to arm what’s left of the Saudi-backed HNC and other rebel groups with heat-seeking surface-to-air missiles. Warning the U.S. to back its plans, Obama finds himself on wrong side of the conflict. Al-Jubeir insists the conflict will rage on until al-Assad’s steps down. He knows that if the HNC’s defeated by Russian air strikes and Iranian-backed ground forces the war would end quickly. U.S. Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura ended peace talks Feb. 3 in Geneva, knowing that Russia and Iran wouldn’t toss al-Assad under the bus. Blaming al-Assad and Russia for more carnage in Syria, HNC spokesman Salem al-Messlet noted “yet another week annihilating defenseless Syrians.” HNC doesn’t admit that the Saudi government will spill any amount of blood to topple al-Assad’s sovereign Shiite government. Handing Stinger missiles to rebel groups would start WWIII.

Handing Saudi-backed rebel groups surface-to-air missiles would escalate the Syrian War to WWIII. If Turkey or Saudi-backed rebel groups down another Russian fighter jet for whatever reason, Putin would hit the perpetrators hard, including Turkey or Saudi Arabia. U.S. officials would be obligated under NATO’s mutual defense treaty to defend its NATO allies. Shelling YPG, Kurdish protection units, in Northern Syria, the Turks are already pushing Russia to the brink. Watching ISIS massacre 130 Syrians today in suicide blasts tells the real story that Turkey and Saudi Arabia has no interest in messing with their ISIS Sunni brothers. Watching ISIS run wild in Syria shows what would happen if the Turks and Saudi’s get their way toppling al-Assad. Opposing Russia and Iran’s efforts to restore order in Syria pushes the region into endless war. Obama needs to urgently change U.S. policy before it’s too late.
